A. Ongoing operations of live entertainment productions at sea from both an artistic and technical aspect is one of the most unique challenges of producing consistent high-quality entertainment on board cruise ships. The POET Theatricals Marine approach to ongoing operations begins in the design phase, and we create productions with maintenance of the shows taken as one of the primary considerations. Another consideration for long running entertainment productions on cruise ships is the ability to reuse infrastructure portions of entertainment productions in future shows, capitalizing on the previous productions’ build expenditure.

POET Technical Services works with the POET Theatricals Marine branch to create cloud based marine entertainment specialized software solutions. Some of these solutions include unique online training systems, online casting and rating systems, and safety inspection reporting systems for POET Theatricals Marine’s live cruise ship show productions. The end result of this type of cruise line live entertainment show preplanning is speedier response to issues in operations, higher quality and consistently presented ongoing live presentations on board the ship, automation of repetitive process in the ship board entertainment production process, increased safety and reduced inventory slippage, all of which ultimately result in client savings and operational efficiencies.

One of the benefits of working with The POET Companies is the leveraging the experience of all six of the subsidiaries into one larger project. The POET design branch (POET Design) works with the construction contractors at the shipyard to ensure the produced live entertainment infrastructure for the vessel fits into the entertainment spaces, can be loaded onboard the vessel through the passageways on the ship, and functions correctly in the live entertainment performance space. Our technical branch (POET Technical Services) sends teams of certified installers and ETCP riggers to install custom rigging equipment used in the live cruise ship show production, the entertainment lighting, show sets, performance props, and other show materials according to vessel’s specifications.

A. Absolutely! We are here to help and want your production to be the best. Please reach out to us to discuss the flying effect you are looking for in your production and we will help make the right choice for your show.

Pre-Production F.A.Q.

A. Performer flying motor placement depends on the venue and the type of flying effects performed during the show. The CAD generated for your specific application will include performer flying motor and operator placement and will be based on the venue CAD diagrams provided to POET Technical Services.

A. The total weight depends on the type of performer flying motor system and the number of persons flying in the show at the same time. We will provide load calculations in our CAD diagram for you to add to your total rig weight calculations. Typically the performer flying motors are mounted on the ground and the only weights added to the system are the live loads generated by the performers and their aerial performance apparatus.

A. Yes.  A basic CAD design and diagram (suitable for corporate events) is included with the performer flying motor rental price. The price of more complex CAD diagrams for long-term installations or very unique applications is dependent on project and is estimated separately.

A. No. POET Technical Services installation riggers will not estimate beam loads, and you will need to have a structural engineer analyze and rate your hang points before POET Technical Services’ flying system installation.

A. Yes. POET Technical Services offers a full range of production services and we would be happy to help.

A. You would need to supply the following:

  • Venue Rigging Points (load rated) and stiffening points (if needed).
  • Local labor (if needed).
  • 208v 3-phase or 400v 3 phase power source with Camloc receptacles

A. POET Technical Services flying systems come complete with all materials needed to fly the performer or speaker from the hang point in the venue to stage venue surface. For example, in the case of a simple single lift line theatrical performer flying system, the POET Technical Services flying motor rental package would come with the following equipment:

  • High Speed Flying Winch (either 208v or 400v 3-phase depending on venue’s power supply)
  • 100’ of power cable with Camloc ends
  • 100’ of motor control cable and joystick controller
  • All Aircraft cable, sheaves, spansets, shackles to attach to venue rigging points.

Use F.A.Q.

A. POET Technical Services flying motor systems include load monitoring. Dynamic shock loads caused by acrobatic “drops” trigger the load sensors to immobilize the flying system as a safety precaution.

A. POET Technical Services performer flying motors include dual travel limits, acceleration and deceleration ramping, multiple redundant motor and external safety brakes, both electric drive fault and active line load sensing, and shaft over-speed sensing.

A. No. Typically, professional aerial performers travel with their own equipment and ensure that it is in safe working condition. Note that we do not allow non-professional acrobatic performers on our equipment. This is solely determined by the POET Technical Services operator/ installation supervisor and is detailed in the rental agreement.

A. POET Design can participate in your project in different capacities and at different levels.

A. Our focus is interactive design. We design everything from elements of live experiences (entertainment venues, lighting, video projection, costuming, sets, performance) through the complete live experience (entire shows and events) as well as UI design, and digital marketing design.

A. Getting started is easy! Just give us a call and we would be happy to help!

A. As content is different for each client, each content marketing solution is tailored to the clients’ content, goals and implementation strategies. We have produced video content, text content, visual content, digital content (websites) and virtually all types of consumable creative works.

A. That depends on your companies’ product and how any written content relates to your product. Content should be naturally written and at least 600 words per page (we feel that 1000+ words is better for ranking purposes). Avoid any keyword stuffing techniques or other “black hat” techniques when writing content, just focus on making it informative and useful for your target customer.

A. A unique content channel is a novel way to deliver your content to your audience.

A. A standard content channel is a currently-used delivery mechanism (think blog, articles, forum posts, social media page).

A. Content is what your audience experiences. If you are a pizza parlor you create pizza and that pizza is your content. If you publish an digital pizza recipe book and offer it as a free download on your website, the book is content and drives traffic to your website publicizing the WHO (the chef), the WHY (hunger), the WHERE (the restaurant), and finally the WHAT (the pizza you are hoping to sell to your customer).

A. This depends on the competitiveness of the search engine terms you are trying to rank. We have launch and monthly maintenance plans for all types of marketing budgets.

A. We feel that older link building techniques are not effective with the Google algorithm updates (Panda and Penguin), and search engine update (Hummingbird). Our focus is the implementation of great content and then stimulating consumption of that content (which then creates links organically as users find your content valuable and share it via links).

A. We offer a complete set of search engine optimization services including content creation (text and video), press releases, social signals, tier rank amplification, authority pages, micro-site local lead generation properties, link building, contextual links, and complete campaigns including initial ranking and rank increase and rank position defending campaigns.

A. We have found that sites need to be optimized before spending money on promotion as fighting on-site penalties dramatically reduces the effects of off-site promotion and doesn’t deliver quality results for our clients. If your website is already optimized and ready for promotion, we can jump to this portion and begin promotion to increase search engine rank right away.

A. POET Media focuses on the digital marketing portion of our client’s overall marketing strategies. Our core mantra in the digital marketing process consists of three steps to increase the organic ranking of your digital properties:

  1. REVIEW: POET Media reviews our client’s current online presence and web properties (web site), researches competitors, performs keyword analysis, analytics analysis, social signals analysis, “story” analysis and digital reputation research.
  2. OPTIMIZE: POET Media begins with defining and clarifying our client’s “story”. After a clear corporate message is established, we begin with onsite search engine optimization (in our opinion the most impactful process to increasing search engine ranking). We work to eliminate any Google Panda or Penguin penalties, duplicate or thin content issues, meta issues, title tag issues, website structure issues, broken links, and website speed issues.
  3. PROMOTE: After the digital properties are optimized we begin digital marketing (the PROMOTE stage) to increase search engine ranking using various off-site search engine optimization techniques. All of our search engine optimization techniques are “white hat” and conform to the latest Google guidelines.

A. Digital marketing is a term used to describe the use of digital technologies (via the internet) to generate new business leads for companies, convert these leads into customers, and interact with these customers to retain them. The key objective is to use the scalable nature of the internet to reach millions of potential new customers and increase sales using digital marketing techniques.
